logophotoIn 2004, Lookout founders John Hering, Kevin Mahaffey, and James Burgess discovered a security vulnerability involving Bluetooth signals and Nokia mobile phones. When Nokia downplayed the significance of the security hole, the three of them took action.

They created the Blue Sniper, a gun-shaped microphone that could pull in Bluetooth signals from 1.2 miles away. Hering and Mahaffey then pointed their gun at the 2005 Academy Awards, hacking sensitive phone data from hundreds of movie stars to illustrate the importance of mobile security. They happened upon a team from the New York Times, who brought our story to the world.

Ever since, Lookout has taken a mobile-first approach to security. Today, Lookout protects mobility for some of the world's largest enterprises, critical government agencies, and tens of millions of individuals worldwide. We've achieved this by partnering with leaders in the mobile ecosystem globally, and we're only getting started.

At Lookout, we're laser-focused on creating mobile-first, cloud-first products not just for IT administrators and CISOs, but individuals as well. The promise of secure mobility is now a reality—the basis for trust in a world without data borders.
