Its mission was to create awareness and visibility for marginalized gay and bisexual Asian and Pacific Islander men to develop a positive collective identity and to establish a support network. A year later, the GAPA Men’s Chorus was born as a social outlet for members.
The original group debuted on 03 November 1989 at the Metropolitan Community Church in San Francisco and, for almost three decades, it has been a unique voice for music not often sung in choral circles – the forgotten songs of home, in the vast cultural landscape of Asia and the islands of the Pacific Ocean. |
