History: Nonprofit Window, OurTownSF.org & Nonprofit Expo In 2001 Patrick Batt, a Castro merchant, recruited Walgreens on Castro St. at 18th to donate a window to SF LGBTQ nonprofits for the purpose of reserving it in order to promote their mission, recruit volunteers & advertise upcoming events. In 2011 he turned over reservations to Paul Margolis. Since the Nonprofit Window faces busy Castro Street, there were long waitlists for a reservation. Due to this, Paul created OurTownSF.org in 2013 to provide a directory of groups serving our community. Paul now shares reservation duties for the Window with Gary Poe. To reserve contact window@ourtownsf.org Over a hundred events are included on the calendar located on the homepage of OurTownSF.org each month either submitted by groups or found on their website or Facebook page. Paul attends and photographs over 150 of events posted on this calendar annually, uploads them on this site and shares them with the hosts and local media. The photographs document current events, promotes future events, and provides a valuable promotional tool for our nonprofits. See his photos under the PHOTOS tab and in The San Francisco Bay Times In 2015, Paul created the annual OurTownSF Nonprofit Expo which brings groups serving us together for a day of fun & community building and takes place 13 days after the Castro Street Fair at the Eureka Valley Recreation Center. In 2018 over 2,000 community members attended the Expo and 130 groups serving the LGBTQ community participated and has grown to become "the largest SF LGBTQ nonprofit expo ever!"
