Gavin Grimm is a central figure in seeking rights for transgender individuals. Gavin has been fighting a school board policy that banned him from using the boys’ restrooms for over three years. The case, taken up by the ACLU, has taken years to wend its way through the legal system and took a major turn when the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth District ruled in August 2016 in Gavin’s favor but was immediately appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, denying Gavin his victory.
