Footloose Dance presents Skinetic

Category: Dance2014-11-14  Mary Alice Fry
Project: Footloose Dance - Skinetic
logoReal-time digital art, kinetic living sculptures, dance/theater and visual narratives inhabit Skinetic Zone where performers and audience interact

In this live action performance inspired by graphic novels, the characters from another dimension struggle for control of magical power. Dazzled by their own technology, the power hungry creators are ultimately forced to listen to other beings who speak on behalf of the colliding natural world.

Skinetic Zone will feature live performance and real-time 3D projection mapping controlled by wearable devices called Myos that allow performers to control the surrounding visuals. The Myos were only released to developers in September and the consumer version is not yet released, so this technology in a live performance makes Skinetic Zone a first-of-its-kind performance.

Skinetic Zone Program Notes:

Skinetic Zone: Magical Technology and Performance Installation at Kunst-Stoff Arts in partnership with Central Market NOW. For the past year, Central Market NOW has been organizing monthly events in and around the Mid Market area in a variety of venues and outdoors on Market Street. Footloose has been in residence at Kunst-Stoff Arts this past year after losing its lease in the Mission in 2013. This was a natural evolution for the two groups to team up on an event this year at Kunst-Stoff where it all began. Central Market NOW has had the support of the SF Mayor's Office of Economic and Workforce Development, North of Market Tenderloin Community Benefit District, California Arts Council and Kenneth Rainin Foundation. Footloose is supported by Grants for the Arts/SF Hotel Tax Fund and generous individuals and businesses.
